Dr. Charles is a special projects consultant with Weitzman, and holds an endowed appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Baker Program in Real Estate at Cornell University. Prior to her current academic appointment, she was a faculty member at the University of Michigan and at Northeastern University. Dr. Charles was also previously an Assistant Vice President with Weitzman before pursuing her academic career.

Charles has published and lectured widely on topics related to real estate development. Her research has received grants from the Institute for the Social Sciences at Cornell, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Real Estate Academic Initiative at Harvard University, and Harvard University's Joint Center for Housing Studies.

In addition to work in academia, Dr. Charles is a licensed and NCARB-certified architect. She practiced architecture for 12 years, first at the Renzo Piano Building Workshop in Paris and later as a vice president at Booth Hansen Architects in Chicago. She holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in architecture. She received her master’s degree in design studies and her doctoral degree in urban planning from Harvard University.
